The Coal Association of New Zealand provides financial support for James Pope and Dave Trumm from CRL Energy to run fourth-year coal and geochemistry courses for the Universities of Otago and Canterbury every year. At Otago the course is run as a short course with students completing 12 lectures in seven days as well as their ordinary schedule of lectures. At Canterbury the course is run as a regular weekly lecture. James and Dave include a strong theory component, but draw on their broad industry experience, bringing the course material to life with real world examples. Both groups of students enjoy the practical, applied, and interactive style of lecture that James and Dave bring to the class room.
