Testing generates new data through the application of known or standardised experimental techniques.  Testing is performed primarily to quantify a known effect. 

Specialised testing – designed around customer requirements;
Standardised testing – testing to a known standard e.g. ISO;
Audits; and
• Test bed programmes (on membranes, catalysts, and materials).
